The Royal Marsden, in collaboration with NTT DATA and CARPL.ai, launches a cutting-edge AI radiology platform to boost cancer detection and research.

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust has teamed up with NTT DATA and CARPL.ai to launch an AI-powered radiology platform aimed at enhancing cancer detection and research. Funded by a three-year grant from the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), this collaboration supports the development and evaluation of medical imaging AI tools to improve diagnostic accuracy.
Researchers at The Royal Marsden and the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), along with other academic partners, will utilize the platform to target cancers such as lung, brain, breast, sarcoma, and prostate. The project’s ultimate goal is to improve early detection and provide faster, more precise diagnoses.
The AI platform is built on NTT DATA’s clinical imaging MLOps infrastructure, powered by Dell servers and advanced GPU capabilities. CARPL.ai contributes by managing AI model deployment, offering researchers the ability to test, validate, and monitor model performance in real time.
NTT DATA is also offering consulting services to help clinical teams interpret results from both commercial and in-house AI applications.
Health Minister Karin Smyth emphasized the role of such collaborations in modernizing the NHS and supporting the government’s 10-Year Health Plan. Similarly, Professor Mike Lewis of NIHR highlighted the initiative’s potential to revolutionize cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Tom Winstanley, CTO at NTT DATA UK & Ireland, praised the project as a benchmark for responsible AI use in healthcare. As the platform evolves, it aims to deliver actionable insights that will support clinical decisions and elevate patient care across the NHS.
