NHAI partners with Amrita Hospital to train ambulance personnel and police teams, strengthening highway emergency response and trauma care.

On World Head Injury Awareness Day, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) partnered with Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, to enhance highway emergency response and reduce road fatalities. This collaboration launched the Sar Salamat toh Ghar Salamat campaign, focusing on training ambulance personnel, private ambulance operators, and Haryana Police Patrol teams in trauma care and emergency response.
India reports around 178,000 road fatalities annually, with highways accounting for 39.2% of accidents. To address this, over 50 ambulance workers received hands-on training on March 23, led by Dr. Gaurav Kakkar, in critical trauma interventions. The initiative will conduct training every three months, ensuring a continuous skill development program. A biker’s rally was also organized to raise awareness.
Government officials emphasized the importance of education, engineering, enforcement, and emergency care in reducing road accidents by 50% by 2030, aligning with the Stockholm Declaration. Experts highlighted that timely medical intervention within the first hour could prevent nearly 50% of road fatalities.
Through this initiative, thousands of ambulance personnel will be trained, reinforcing India’s commitment to road safety and emergency preparedness. The campaign aims to create a nationwide model for trauma care and responsible driving, ensuring safer highways for all.
