Eli Lilly India partners with Apollo Clinics to combat rising obesity and type 2 diabetes rates through a national awareness and education drive.

Eli Lilly and Company (India) has joined hands with Apollo Clinic, a key part of Apollo Health and Lifestyle, and Apollo HealthCo. (Apollo 24|7) to launch a national initiative aimed at increasing awareness around obesity and type 2 diabetes. This partnership will be implemented across over 200 Apollo Clinics, engaging more than 300 healthcare professionals.
Obesity, a persistent and relapsing condition, is a major contributing factor to type 2 diabetes and is associated with over 200 health issues, including high blood pressure, cholesterol imbalances, heart disease, and sleep apnea. In 2023, around 6.5% of Indian adults—approximately 100 million people—were affected by obesity.
Winselow Tucker, President and General Manager of Lilly India, stated that the partnership is focused on reshaping how people perceive and manage these health conditions. The goal is to foster awareness, encourage proactive care, and empower individuals to make long-term lifestyle changes.
Dr. Sangita Reddy, Joint Managing Director of Apollo Hospitals Group, emphasized that data from their annual ‘Health of Nation’ reports show a troubling rise in obesity, especially among adults under 55. She highlighted the urgency of tackling this growing issue, which is further compounded by physical inactivity and unrecognized non-communicable diseases.
This large-scale collaboration aims to deliver impactful health education and promote early intervention to improve outcomes for millions across the country.
