Hyderabad hosts India’s first Resuscitation Academy, aiming to improve cardiac arrest survival rates through expert-led training and global collaboration.

EMRI Green Health Services (EMRI GHS), in collaboration with the Global Resuscitation Alliance (GRA), USA, hosted a two-day Resuscitation Academy Leadership Workshop at its Devar Yamzal facility near Hyderabad. The event aimed to enhance cardiac arrest survival rates in India through expert-led sessions and practical demonstrations.
Dr. GV Ramana Rao, Director of the Emergency Medicine Learning Centre (EMLC) & Research at EMRI, emphasized the urgency of improving cardiac survival rates, drawing inspiration from countries like Singapore. He highlighted key strategies, including early recognition, timely CPR, rapid defibrillation, accessibility of Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs), and structured emergency response systems.
The workshop received technical support from the Unit for Prehospital Emergency Care (UPEC), Ministry of Health, Singapore, and the Laerdal Foundation, USA, which funds research to prevent deaths from cardiac arrest, trauma, and birth complications. Topics covered included Telephone CPR, High-Performance CPR, a Culture of Accountability, and the Global Resuscitation Alliance’s ten-step framework.
The event marked the launch of India’s first Resuscitation Academy, bringing together 75+ participants from various countries, including health officials, doctors from NIMS and Apollo, and global experts. With a target to increase cardiac arrest survival rates in India from 2% to 10% by 2030, the academy is set to revolutionize emergency response training nationwide.
