Aster MIMS, Kozhikode, achieves a historic milestone as the first Indian hospital to receive AHA’s Comprehensive Stroke Center accreditation, reinforcing its excellence in advanced stroke care, rapid intervention, and patient recovery.

Aster MIMS, Kozhikode, has become the first hospital in India to receive the prestigious Comprehensive Stroke Center accreditation from the American Heart Association (AHA). This recognition highlights the hospital’s excellence in advanced stroke diagnostics, treatment, and post-stroke care.
Operating under an integrated stroke care model, Aster MIMS utilizes its Response-Rescue-Resuscitation (R-R-R) system, ensuring seamless coordination between emergency responders and hospital staff. The hospital is also home to one of South Asia’s first Emergency Department Biplane Cathlabs, enabling precise stroke diagnosis and rapid medical intervention.
Lukman Ponmadath, COO of Aster MIMS, emphasized that this accreditation reflects the hospital’s commitment to treating complex stroke cases with state-of-the-art technology and efficient patient care. Aster MIMS has also received multiple accolades, including the World Stroke Organization’s Angels Awards and the IHWS Patient-Centric Hospital in Stroke Care Award.
Dr. Venugopalan P.P, Head of Emergency Medicine, highlighted the life-saving impact of their advanced stroke care infrastructure, which reduces delays for thrombolysis and thrombectomy treatments, crucial for patient recovery. The hospital’s specialized stroke team, cutting-edge imaging technologies, and streamlined processes have been instrumental in achieving this milestone.
The accreditation was formally announced at a press conference attended by key medical officials, reinforcing Aster MIMS’s role as a leader in stroke care innovation and excellence.
