In a significant development, Apollo Cradle & Children’s Hospital has unveiled a state-of-the-art Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in Karapakkam, Chennai.
The PICU serves as a critical care facility dedicated to addressing the needs of severely ill children, encompassing cases involving respiratory challenges, infections, and post-trauma care.
A Pediatric Intensive Care Unit stands as a cornerstone within children’s hospitals, providing specialized and intensive care for critically ill young patients. It caters to children facing severe respiratory complications, critical infections, or those recuperating from traumatic incidents. Often, children undergoing major surgeries are closely monitored within the PICU until they exhibit signs of recovery.
The newly inaugurated PICU at Apollo Cradle & Children’s Hospital is tailored to accommodate children, teenagers, and young adolescents grappling with life-threatening conditions.
This advanced unit is furnished with a spectrum of cutting-edge medical equipment including multi-channel cardiac monitors, in-house 2D echo and ultrasound machines, ventilators, high-flow nasal cannula, defibrillators, negative pressure isolation room, invasive ABP monitoring, patient retrieval facilities, invasive monitoring, alpha bed for long-term care, facilities for difficult airway management, and point-of-care ultrasound capabilities, as detailed in a company press release.
Dr. V Mohanram, Senior Consultant in Pediatric Critical Care at Apollo Cradle & Children’s Hospital, emphasized the PICU's design to provide compassionate and expert care, ensuring the overall well-being of the young patients and their families.
The launch of this specialized PICU facility underscores Apollo Cradle & Children’s Hospital's commitment to offering high-quality, specialized healthcare services, equipped with cutting-edge technology and expertise, dedicated to the critical needs of the pediatric population in Chennai.
