Apollo Hospitals partners with IBA to bring Proteus One proton therapy to India, enhancing access to cutting-edge cancer treatment and innovation.

Apollo Hospitals has partnered with Ion Beam Applications (IBA) to bring the Proteus One proton therapy system to India, further strengthening the country’s capabilities in advanced cancer treatment. The agreement was signed by Dr. Preetha Reddy, Executive Vice Chairperson of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise (AHEL), and Olivier Legrain, CEO of IBA, in the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid of Belgium.
Apollo Hospitals pioneered proton therapy in India in 2019 by establishing the Apollo Proton Cancer Centre in Chennai, the only such facility in South Asia and the Middle East. Since its inception, the center has treated over 2,000 patients from 147 countries. Proton therapy is particularly effective for treating tumors in the central nervous system, head and neck cancers, pediatric cases, and complex malignancies.
Dr. Prathap C Reddy, Founder-Chairman of Apollo Hospitals, emphasized the organization’s commitment to medical innovation and global leadership in proton therapy. The addition of Proteus One, featuring DynamicARC beam delivery technology, aims to enhance cancer treatment and improve patient outcomes.
With India ranking third globally in cancer incidence, the partnership with IBA will facilitate knowledge-sharing and oncologist training, advancing proton therapy adoption in the region. This collaboration underscores Apollo Hospitals’ dedication to offering cutting-edge cancer care and solidifying its position as a leader in proton therapy.
