Akums and TNAU collaborate to create sustainable, plant-based pharmaceutical solutions through academic and industrial synergy.

Akums Drugs and Pharmaceuticals has entered a strategic partnership with Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) through a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to foster innovation in sustainable pharmaceutical development. This collaboration aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry by leveraging agricultural research to create advanced healthcare solutions.

The partnership will focus on the development of plant-based pharmaceutical and nutraceutical formulations, emphasizing sustainability. TNAU’s Department of Processing and Food Engineering at AEC&RI will explore the use of agri-derived inputs for novel applications, highlighting the increasing relevance of natural ingredients in modern medicine.

Akums will contribute its pharmaceutical expertise to this initiative, offering training and internship opportunities to support skill development in pharmaceutical processing. In addition, Akums and TNAU’s AEC&RI Kumulur will explore the commercialization of innovative formulations under the ICAR-sponsored CRP on SA Project, backed by CIPHET, Ludhiana.

Sanjeev Jain, MD of Akums, emphasized the value of research-driven innovation and the potential of agricultural science in developing globally relevant, eco-conscious formulations. Director Arushi Jain echoed this vision, noting that integrating traditional agricultural resources with pharmaceutical science can yield sustainable, accessible products.

Dr. P. Rajkumar, Dean at AEC&RI, underscored the partnership’s real-world impact, aiming to translate research into tangible healthcare benefits.

This alliance not only supports the ‘Make in India’ initiative but also sets a benchmark for academia-industry collaboration in creating high-quality, affordable, and sustainable healthcare products.
